Great Wild Atlantic Marathon Walk
13 August @ 9:30 am
For clarification: Even though it says on your online ticket that the Walk starts at 7am this is to accommodate those who requested to start earlier in the day. If you are starting early, please collect your number in the Community Centre from 7am.
The official start is at 9.30 am with An Taoiseach Micheál Martin leading the way.
It’s going to be a great one!
From early morning the station DLA’s Philip White and Vincent O’Donovan have erected the safety signs along the route and side roads. With a warm forecast for tomorrow, we are encouraging walkers and especially those doing the long distances to take off as early as possible to avail of lower temperatures and coastal breeze. Walkers can commence anytime from 7.30am at Courtmacsherry Community Centre where those who registered online can pick up their numbers and Registration desks open at 7am.
We are thrilled to announce that An Taoiseach Micheál Martin will start our Walk at 9.30am on Saturday August 13th from the Courtmacsherry Community Centre.. An Taoiseach has walked in every GWAMW so far and is a great supporter of the RNLI.
The Great Wild Atlantic Marathon Walk is a full 26.2 mile (42.2 km) walk from Courtmacsherry to South Ring and back, along the spectacular Seven Heads peninsula. There are also 5km, 10km and half marathon routes signposted along the way.
We welcome Micheál Martin once again this year and photos, courtesy of Martin Walsh, show an Taoiseach proudly wearing our electric yellow t-shirt last year.
